Over a hundred tribal laced with traditional arms, bow-n-arrows, axes and sticks demonstrated outside the Divisional Commissioner’s Office today morning and demanded equal, non partial and favorable law to be implemented for their benefits.
Precisely, the issues of forest land acquisitions, low cost ration and other facilities were raised openly. A memorandum containing 17-points demand was handed over to Subodh Agrawal, Divisional Commissioner.
The first point of memorandum blames State Government for improper and inadequate execution of Forest Right Act, the tribal demanded surveys to be done and then lands belonging to tribal shall be handed over to them. They also said that there are cases of forced acquisition of lands by some officials of forest and police department, which is unlawful.
Premchand Pargi, State Secretary of Aadivasi Janadhikar Eka Manch, the active body supporting all the tribal issues in Rajasthan said, “Since the Forest Right Act was introduced in 2005, out of more than 60000 tribal there are only 30,000 who received proper compensation under land acquisition and the rest of them are still unknown and confused about their future”.
Pargi also mentioned few points they demanded from administration like paying atleast Rs.200 per day wage to all laborers working under National Rural Employment Program, providing 35kg monthly ration in the minimum rate of Rs.2 per kg, 25% rights on the produce from mining activities, etc.
Major issues in other demands included, all tribal should come under BPL category, mass education reformation, stricter law to safeguard tribal, pension for all old-aged tribal, housing and electricity facilities etc.
Considering the large number of people joining the procession and demonstration, heavy police force were deployed outside Divisional Commissioner’s Office.
