Comparative charts show that death rate went up by 25 percent in 2017. Because of head injuries in road accidents, death graphs went high in 2017 as compared to that of 2015.

Charts show that in the year 2015, 383 people lost their lives in road accidents mainly because of head injuries. Since people are still negligent regarding wearing helmets while driving two wheelers, year 2017 witnessed 451 deaths.

Traffic police took to strict attitude only last week and fined people who were not following safety rules. A total of 2 lakh 35 thousand rupees was collected as fine from 1600 two-wheeler riders. Even yesterday (on Tuesday), traffic police carried out this checking and collected 1 lakh 10 thousand rupees from more than 550 people.

If we take a look at the road accidents that happened in 2015, 1187 people got injured in more than 900 accidents. Out of these 1187 injured people, 383 lost their lives due to severe head injuries. In 2016, 1245 people got injured in 1100 plus accidents and 472 out of these died. Until November 2017, 1182 accidents took place in which 1395 people got injured and 451 died. 95 percent deaths reported have been due to head injuries.

Very often public has been made aware of the importance of helmets. But negligent attitude overpowered two-wheeler riders. Where importance of helmet has been specified through various road safety weeks, it has also been emphasised that helmets used should be of good quality. Many a times, people have suffered only because of low standard helmets which do not protect heads instead helmets break when the rider falls …only to injure more.

Use of mobile phones while driving is another issue. From now on, fine will be levied on all those who are found using mobile while driving…be it two-wheelers or four-wheelers. Talking on mobile phones disturbs concentration on the road resulting in accidents.

Henceforth, strict action will be taken against people not using helmets and against people who use mobile phones while driving. It has also been decided to cancel the driving license of people who do not follow traffic rules. ASP Harsh Ratnoo said that driving licenses and even Registration certificates will be cancelled for those who are found breaking rules constantly. For two-wheelers another strict action will be that about riding on pillion. There cannot be more than 1 pillion rider on any two-wheeler. Action will be taken against anyone found with more than one pillion rider.
