A medical student became a victim of online fraud. A man posing to be a bank officer took details of Adhar Card number and ATM number on a phone call and robbed a girl.
Identifying himself as Siddharth Verma from Bank of India, the man asked for the girl’s Adhar number so that it could be linked with the bank account number. Then he asked for her ATM card number.
The girl who is a medical student made the mistake of trusting a stranger and gave all the required details. After 5 minutes, she started getting messages on her phone regarding amount withdrawn from her account. One after the other, 25000, 40000, 9990, 5000 rupees were withdrawn on the 4th of December.
The medical student went to the bank the very next day and had her ATM card blocked. But on the 5th of December, another 45000 rupees were withdrawn from her account in 3 different instalments. This way she was duped of around 1 lakh 25 thousand rupees. The matter is now being investigated by police.
