Smaller railway stations will have Wi-Fi connectivity facility very soon. Indian Railways has decided to provide internet connectivity at the smaller stations as well. The internet facility will be free of cost. As of now RailTel has provided high speed connectivity to 985 railway stations. Under the next stage of internet connectivity, 4791 small stations will have Wi-Fi facility for which work is in progress. These stations include railway stations will fall under B, C, D and E category.
The main objective of providing internet facility is to give high speed facility to these smaller areas which are not densely populated. For using the facility on smart phones the user will be required to switch on the Wi-Fi mode and select Railwire Wi-Fi network. Once the main page of railwire network is displayed, the user will be required to register his mobile number to avail the facility.
