The news was regulated of Aadhaar Card regarding the linking of Aadhaar Card with PAN card. The deadline was set up till 31 March, 2023, but now the deadline has been extended till June 30, 2023, the Finance ministry said in a release on March 28, 2023. PAN cards which are not linked with Aadhaar card before July 1, 2023, will be deactivated.
The Release Stated:
No refund shall be made against such PANs. Interest shall not be payable on such refund for the period during which PAN remains inoperative. TDS and TCS shall be deducted at a higher rate.
Recently, the Supreme Court released guidelines regarding where the Aadhaar card is mandatory and where not. In this, one point stated that linking Aadhaar with PAN is not mandatory when someone does not have an Aadhaar card and if someone has both the documents then linking Aadhaar with PAN card becomes mandatory.
One can complete the process of linking Aadhaar with PAN by visiting the Income Tax Department’s portal and paying a fee of Rs. 1,000 for the same. The PAN can be made operative again in 30 days, upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of fee of Rs.1,000.
People Who Are Exempted From This:
This category includes those residing in specified States, a non-resident as per the Act, an individual who is not a citizen of India or individuals of the age of eighty years or more at any time during the previous year.
