The Akodra Dam has been overflowing for the past three days. With a total height of 18.4 meters and a storage capacity of 302 million cubic feet (MCFT), the dam plays a crucial role in supplying water to Udaipur. An 11.2 km long tunnel carries water from the dam to Kodiyat, where it then flows through the Sisarma River to reach Pichola Lake.
In addition to this, overflow from the Akodara Dam is being directed to the Mansi Wakal Dam. Although the Mansi Wakal Dam's storage capacity is 18 meters, it has currently reached 17.95 meters. Excess water is now reaching Gujarat. Bhawar Lal Chaubisa, the assistant engineer at the Akodara Dam, reported that the tunnel gates are open by four inches to manage the overflow.
Pichola Lake is also full, and the surplus water is flowing from Swaroop Sagar Lake into the Ayad River, then to Udaisagar Lake, which is at full capacity as well. The water continues from Udaisagar to the Vallabhnagar Dam and eventually to the Badgaon Dam in the Mavli region.
The Akodra Dam, which was constructed in 2015, continues to play a vital role in maintaining water levels across Udaipur’s lakes.
