21 Kgs of Banned Plastic Seized in Surprise Checks by Nagar Nigam

Municipal Commissioner makes appeal to replace plastic with jute or cloth bags

Udaipur, September 28, 2024 – Udaipur Nagar Nigam continues to crack down on the usage of single-use banned plastic in the city and yesterday, September 28, 2024, it seized 21 kgs of plastic bags from various locations in the city. A sum of Rs 6,000 was also collected in penalties.

According to the Udaipur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ram Prakash, surprise checks were conducted in many parts of the city. A team led by health officer Satyanarayan Sharma, health inspector Subhash Chandra Sharma and others visited areas like Mali Colony, Ayad, University Road, RK Circle, Syphon Chauraha and seized the banned item. Also present with the team were members of the District Pollution Control Department Garima Chaudhary and Yashpal.

Ram Prakash made an appeal to the city’s business community to avoid use of plastic and replace it with cloth or paper bags. He said that several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the media are participating in awareness campaigns against banned plastic. Cloth and jute bags have also been distributed. This is in keeping with the strict directives issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding the use of plastic.
