Chief Arora also pointed out that there are 12 crore children in the age group of 12 to 17 and only 1 percent have underlying health conditions.
Vaccination guidelines for children with comorbidities will roll out in September 2021 while for those without comorbidities, vaccines are likely to be administered in the first quarter of 2022. Children with birth disorders like congenital heart disease will also get the vaccine first.
Guidelines are being framed for children with comorbidities and will be sent to the health ministry for final approval before the roll out. The National Institute of Disaster Management's (NIDM) report on a possible Covid third wave said children could be at risk.
