Udaipur experienced significant disruptions during Raksha Bandhan due to an internet shutdown. The outage led to a breakdown in nearly all courier companies' delivery systems, resulting in thousands of parcels remaining undelivered.
With internet access unavailable, the apps used by delivery boys to manage and complete deliveries were non-functional. These apps are crucial for the delivery process, allowing couriers to contact recipients, provide updates, and process OTPs for confirming deliveries. Since the shutdown began on Saturday, most courier companies in the city have struggled to operate efficiently.
Vijay Singh from a local courier company highlighted the severity of the situation, noting that their four city counters have between three to four thousand parcels still pending delivery at each location. Adding to the challenge, many delivery boys have taken leave, further impeding the delivery process.
As a result of the shutdown, many Rakhi sent by sisters could not reach their brothers, and gifts from brothers failed to arrive for their sisters. This has led to a disappointing Raksha Bandhan for many families, with Rakhis and gifts left unexchanged.
