Delta Plus variant found in 3 states in India

Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala have reported cases of Delta plus variant.

Out of the 3 states, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of Delta plus variant cases at 21.

A member of NITI Ayog said that Delta variant has so far not been classifed as a variant of concern.

3 Indian states have reported cases of Delta Plus variant of Covid-19. These 3 states are Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. Delta variant is now spreading it wings and it has further mutated into Delta Plus-AY.1 variant or B.1.617.2.1 which is considered to be the most dangerous variant of covid.

Maharashtra has reported 21 cases of Delta Plus variant. Out of these 21 cases, Jalgaon reported 9 delta plus cases, Mumbai 7, Sindhudurg 1, Thane 1 and Palgarh district 1. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that 15,7,500 samples  have been taken in May out of which 21 have been found infected with Delta Plus variant.

In Kerala, the variant has been found in Palakkad and Pathanamthitta districts and 3 (2+1 respectively) people have been found positive with the Delta Plus. The patient from Pathanamthitta is a 4 year old boy.

A 65 year old woman from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh has been found infected with Delta Plus variant. This woman had recovered under home isolation from Covid-19 and was also administered both doses of vaccine.

The Union Health Ministry has not yet classified “Delta Plus” variant as a variant of concern. One of the NITI Aayog members also said that the first variant of Delta Plus was found in the month of March in Europe.
