The boundaries of Jaisamand Lake, Badi Lake, and Bada Madar in the region will soon be delineated to prevent illegal construction The decision was made at a recent district lake conservation committee meeting.
Proposal to Define Lake Boundaries
Proposals will be prepared to define the land within these lakes boundaries, based on their maximum water levels. These proposals, which will consider land records and maps, will be sent to the Rajasthan Lake (Conservation and Development) Authority in Jaipur within 15 days. The Water Resources Department will handle the proposal creation, with UMC from the Revenue Department and the UDA.
The proposals aim to issue notifications declaring the lake boundaries and surrounding areas as protected under the Authority Act 2015. While discussions on lake conservation occurred, concerns about encroachments in catchment areas, which supply water to the lakes, were not addressed.
Encroachments Near Lake
Notably, although there has been no encroachment around Badi Lake more than 10 hotels have been constructed in its catchment area. Similarly, while Jaisamand Lake has only two hotels in its center, future hotel developments are possible on leasehold lands. Additionally, slurry dumping issues by unknown individuals were reported in the Bada Madar catchment area last year, but no suspects have been identified yet.
District Collector Arvind Poswal initially focused on Jaisamand and Badi Lake. However, the Collector included Bada Madar in the list after noting that Badi Lake is protected for Mahseer fish.
