The Delhi Gate area is set to find relief from its traffic jams with the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed elevated road. The DPR outlines a road spanning two and a half kilometers, commencing from the city station and extending to the collector's bungalow. The estimated cost for this entire project is approximately Rs 215 crore. The corporation has not yet disclosed the source of funding for this project. However, the mayor remains optimistic, stating that funds tend to flow naturally for projects that serve the public interest. The cooperation of all citizens is anticipated. The entire project will soon be presented on a large screen, and input will be sought from knowledgeable individuals.
Upon completion of this long-awaited elevated road, traffic congestion at Udaipole, Surajpole, Delhi Gate, and the Court intersection is expected to significantly decrease, providing relief for the city. One end of the elevated road at Delhi Gate will connect to Ashwini Bazaar. The High Court has issued an order stating that the construction of this road must proceed only under the court's directives. Consequently, the applicant has submitted a request to the court for approval, given that this elevated road is of a smaller scale. Subsequently, the Municipal Corporation will seek approval based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The construction of this elevated road was a collaborative effort between the Municipal Corporation and UIT. Initially, UIT took charge of the project, prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR), and invested approximately Rs 4 lakh into it. UIT's original plan had the elevated road starting at the Town Hall and concluding at the Court Square, primarily alleviating traffic congestion at Delhi Gate. However, the Municipal Corporation expanded the project's scope significantly by extending the route from the city station to the collector's residence.
