People do not mind giving penalty and pollute the lakes. If the penalty amount is raised, the fear might stop them from throwing food in the lakes.

Repeated directions and warnings about penalty over throwing left over food in the lakes has not given any good results. The reason behind this is that people do not mind shelling a couple of thousand rupees to clear themselves from the clutches.

The action of throwing left over food in the water bodies has become very common. There is no fear among the vatika organisers or the people arranging the events. The only reason that comes to mind is the low amount of penalty that is easily given by people. The lake lovers of Udaipur have pointed out this fact once again that people are not scared of law and shelling out a few thousands does not deter them from committing the 'crime' of polluting the lakes. Every other day, food is being thrown after a particular event is over.

Recently left over food was thrown in the lake by one of the well known vatikas alongside Fatehsagar lake. The vatika organiser was fined with a meagre 2000 rupees for this crime. Despite a lot of monitoring, the lakes are still being polluted and the wedding season adds to the 'crime'.

The Lake Development Authority members pointed out this fact once again that lake pollution can be controlled by increasing the penalty amount. When people can pay lakhs of rupees as rent towards the venue, they must be fined a good deal for polluting the lake. Only then they will realise the game that they are playing with the lakes and will understand the benefits of lake conservation.
