The Civil Defence Rescue team retrieved the body of the 7yr old girl, 24 hrs after she was swept away in Udaipur's Ayad river on Sunday afternoon, 8 September. The rescue operation was marred by the swift flow of the river following the heavy rains in Udaipur. The rescue operation began at 4pm on 8 Sept, stopped when it grew dark in the evening and resumed at 7am on 9 Sept.

According to Bhupalpura police station officer Mukesh Soni, Neelam, a resident of Pratap Nagar area, had gone fishing with her 12-year-old brother on the Ayad river under Shaheed Bhagat Singh culvert near the Lake City Mall. On Sunday afternoon around 3 o'clock, when both were fishing, Neelam's foot slipped and she fell into the water. She grabbed her brother's T-shirt to save herself, but due to the strong current, the brother also fell into the water. The brother tried to save himself and Neelam's hand slipped, due to which she was swept away. The brother somehow managed to get out and shouted for help and the locals gathered.

On getting the information, the civil defence team reached the spot and started the rescue operations. The girls body was found 2km from the point she was swept off into the water.
