The state government has declared a price hike for petrol and diesel. The anouncement was done on late Saturday night. 

Petrol prices have gone up 2.24 rupees per litre and diesel price was increased by 2.15 rupees a litre. This has taken the rpcie of petrol to 75.59 rupees/litre and diesel 69.28rupees/litre. 

Increase in VAT by 4 percent has brought about this change. VAT on petrol used to be 30% and that on diesel used to be 22%. This is now 34% and 26% respectively. 

It may be noted that the central government had increased the excise duty on fuel by 3 rupees last week.
