In response to concerns raised during a recent meeting regarding the conservation of Mahseer fish in Badi Talab, the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) has taken decisive action. On June 24, 2024, the UDA sealed the Badi Garh Palace Resort located at Badi, Rajasthan. Despite originally receiving approval for a farmhouse, the resort's owners undertook illegal construction, expanding to include a ground floor, first floor, and second floor, housing 19 rooms, a restaurant, a swimming pool, and a garden.
Commercial Activities Prohibited Under Eco-Sensitive Zone
Typically, farmhouse construction is restricted to 10% of the total land area, yet the resort builders exceeded this limit by constructing on 70% of the land. Furthermore, commercial activities, such as those offered by the luxurious resort, are prohibited in farmhouses under local regulations.
Resort Managed Online by Gujarat Company
The resort, which had been actively booking rooms, pool access, and dining services online, was managed by Nirvana Hotel, a company based in Gujarat. This arrangement occurred under a lease agreement with the resort's owner, despite the property being situated within the Sajjangarh Eco Sensitive Zone, where commercial ventures are strictly forbidden.
UDA Officials Issued Notice
Following directives from UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, officials issued a notice to the resort's owner, seeking an explanation for the violations. Subsequently, the UDA proceeded with sealing the resort after confirming the illegalities reported during an investigation conducted by Surveyor Manoj Mali.
Resort Construction Under Eco-Sensitive Zone
Recently, a meeting chaired by Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal on June 14 addressed concerns about the resort's construction within the Eco Sensitive Zone. The meeting was prompted by objections raised by Madan Pandit, the Sarpanch of Badi, highlighting the breach of zoning regulations.
UDA Secretary affirmed that notices have been dispatched under Commissioner Rahul Jain's directives to address similar unlawful activities across Eco Sensitive Zones, Green Zones, and other government-designated lands.
