Udaipur, November 21, 2024 - In Udaipur, land mafias are illegally cutting hills and constructing resorts, hotels, and farmhouses. Recently, a case surfaced in Raghunathpura where blasting of hills, plotting of land, and illegal construction were exposed. Despite the issue being highlighted, the UDA has failed to take strict action.
In Raghunathpura, land mafias have divided a hill into two parts. They created a road through the middle and began marking plots at the foothills. A cemented road has also been built on the opposite hill. Now, preparations are underway to mark plots for farmhouses on the hill.
Although the UDA conducted a survey and issued notices based on the Collector's orders, no significant steps have been taken to stop the illegal activities. The cement road still remains on the hill, and construction continues.
The High Court issued an order on August 25, 2023, banning all hill cutting until the amended Hill Conservation Act is enacted. The court also directed the state government and administration to present the amended act, but this has not happened yet. Despite the court's order, no action has been taken to stop the illegal hill blasting in Raghunathpura.
Legal experts and environmentalists are demanding a criminal case be filed against those responsible for cutting the hills. They argue that the illegal activities are damaging the environment and misleading the public.
The authorities must take concrete steps to stop the land mafias and protect Udaipur's hills. The UDA needs to act on the notices and follow through with stricter measures to protect eco-sensitive areas.
