Transport department has taken a logical step towards the drivers of commercial vehicles. This step has been taken as part of Road Safety Awareness programme.

It is the first time that free life insurance is being done in the names of wives of commercial vehicle drivers. Drivers hailing from Udaipur, Rajsamand, Dungarpur and Banswara are being provided insurance policies in the names of wives as a safety measure so that in case of any emergency during road accidents, the driver’s family can avail the benefit of compensation of 2 lakh rupees.

RTO Manna Lal Rawat said that this step will be of great advantage and emotional support to the drivers’ families. He pointed out that every year around 500 people die in road accidents and more than 1500 get injured. Drivers can contact concerned transport offices in Rajsamand, Dungarpur, Banswara and Udaipur for insurance.

Manna Lal Rawat also said that awareness of traffic rules can help in reducing road accidents. Knowing road signs, following traffic signals, being careful at turns and by letting other vehicles pass through without being adamant can help a lot in avoiding accidents. All drivers must know what each road sign means. This would certainly create awareness about road safety.
