October 18, 2024 - The National Testing Agency (NTA), New Delhi, has changed the format of the engineering entrance exam Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025.  JEE-Main 2025 will now have a new exam pattern.

Section B of the question paper for each subject will now have only five questions, all of which will be mandatory. Previously, Section B had 10 questions with an option to choose any five. This will be applicable to both Engineering (BE/BTech, paper 1) and Architecture and Planning (BArch/BPlanning, paper 2) tests, the agency said.

“The examination structure would return to its original format, where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions, without any options for selection in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2 A (B Arch) and Paper 2 B (B Planning),” the NTA notification explains.

The paper will have 25 questions each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each subject’s paper will be divided into two sections and all questions in both sections will be mandatory. Section A will have 20 questions and Section B five questions of integer type.

Now the JEE-Main 2025 question paper will have a total of 75 questions, all of which will be mandatory. The marking pattern will be 4/-1, and the total marks will be 300.

As per a NTA notification, changes had been made in the exam format during the COVID-19 period in the interest of students. These changes are now being revoked and the original pattern will be followed.
