The lakes of Udaipur need to be strongly administered as they are targetted for selfish motives constantly. The biggest shock is that despite the High Court’s directives, the lakes and the ghats are being damaged and administration, Municipal Corporation and lake patrol team do not get to know of this.

One such incident came to light when the lake lovers informed Udaipur Collector Chetan Devra regarding one of the ghats being damaged for the purpose of jetty in Lake Pichola. Panchdevria ghat at Lake Pichola was damaged to a great extent by a hotel and when the inspection teams visited the spot, they found the ghat broken and the construction material was lying at the site.

One of the representatives of the hotel also reached the site upon information and when questioned by the inspection team said that the old jetty was damaged and was being replaced by a new jetty. Quite surprisingly, he had no documents to support the argument after which the team directed that the work be stopped immediately and if the directions are not followed, strict action would follow. The Mayor of Municipal Corporation has assured that action will be taken immediately.

It is quite strange that the lake patrol teams take quick action against people bathing at lake sides, illegal fishing, encroachment and waste disposal. How come this damage of the lake side was missed by the team? Does this not come under illegal construction? Shouldn’t the lakes be preserved and the lake sides be protected? Are the hotels working at their free will and have no fear? More vigilance, in fact, strict vigilance is required as the lakes of Udaipur are the main reason behind the beauty of this city.
