Udaipur, September 23, 2024: A market shutdown is in progress in Mavli district today, September 23, 2024, following a protest by various communities against allotment of land for a madrasa. A large number of people gathered in response to the bandh and a memorandum was submitted demanding cancellation of the allotment. In light of the protests, a significant police force has been deployed as a precautionary measure.

People from nearby villages also joined the shutdown and markets remained closed in areas like Fatehnagar, Sanwad, Ghassa, Dabok, Palanakalan and Khemli. Police forces have been deployed in these areas for security purposes as well.

According to reports, the previous government had allocated four bighas and 16 biswa of land under plot numbers 5330-1745 and 5331-1745 for a madrasa in Mavli in 2021. Local residents allege that the allocated land falls in an area with waterlogging and is affected by the Abdul Rahman case.

In response to the protests and the shutdown, Mavli SDM Mansukh Ram Damor has sent a recommendation to the District Collector for cancelling the land allocation.
