Sewage leakage threatens Udaipur's Pichola Lake despite Smart City Project efforts

Sewage Leakage

Despite significant investments and efforts under the Smart City project, sewage leakage continues to threaten the pristine waters of Pichola Lake in Udaipur. The ineffective management of sewage lines has led to daily flows of sewage onto popular tourist routes and into the lake itself, raising concerns about public health and tarnishing the city's image.

Officials responsible for preventing sewage contamination in Udaipur's Pichola Lake have failed to address ongoing sewage leakage issues. Despite substantial investments aimed at making the lake sewage-free, sewage lines installed under the Smart City project continue to leak, posing a serious threat to environmental and public health.

The leakage of sewage onto routes leading to prominent tourist attractions, such as Ganagaur Ghat and Bagore Ki Haveli, has become a common occurrence. Tourists navigating these areas often encounter dirty water, negatively impacting the city's tourism sector.

Increasing the issue is the fact that water from Pichola Lake is supplied to city residents as drinking water. However, the presence of sewage contaminants has raised concerns about water quality and its potential health risks to residents.

Despite repeated complaints from concerned citizens and former officials like Tej Shankar Paliwal, responsible authorities have failed to provide a lasting solution to the sewage leakage problem. Paliwal highlighted the lack of action in rectifying technical flaws in sewage infrastructure and the mismanagement of rainwater.
