The Education Department of the government of Rajasthan has done an about-turn on its earlier order of cancelling Diwali vacations for schools under the state board this year. After addressing the concerns by the teaching fraternity associations, the Ministry released an order today evening, announcing Diwali vacations for schools under the Rajasthan Board, from 29 October till 7 November.

This change in decision follows a protest by the teachers, who called for permitting mid-term holidays, following a harrowing 18 months of COVID unrest. The Education Department had earlier cancelled the Diwali Vacations citing loss of study hours in the last 18 months due to COVID.

The earlier decision, which had allowed just 3 holidays during Diwali, has now increased it to 10 days. In the earlier years, the Diwali break was across a 12-15 day window.

In government records, the break has been classified as a Mid-Term Vacations instead of Diwali Holidays. The department has also cancelled the 4 leaves that were given in the name Teachers Conference.
