The Tribal Advisory Council constituted in the Government of Rajasthan will now meet every three months.The Tribal Area Development Minister, Babulal Kharadi was responding to questions by the Assembly members at the Vidhan Sabha. He informed that the firsst meeting of the TAC was held on JUly 20, 2024. He added that 11 proposals were approved in this meeting and the same have been sent to the Administrative Secretary, Governor's Secretariat, Raj Bhavan Jaipur and Principal Secretary, Chief Minister.
Kharadi also informed, that during the tenure of the previous government, only one meeting was held after the Tribal Advisory Council was formed in 2019. Since then the TAC has been reconstituted four times, he informed. The TAD Minister also informed that the maiden meeting of the Council was chaired by the erstwhile Chief Minister on 9 February 2021, while there is a provision for the meeting of the TAC to be held every quarter as per the place, date and time specified by the Speaker of the House.
He informed that there is a provision for the meeting of the Tribal Advisory Council to be held every quarter on the date, time and place determined by the Speaker. From 2019 till now, one meeting has been held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister on 9 February 2021. He placed the details of the meeting and the members present in the meeting on the table of the House.
What is a Tribal Advisory Council
This is a statutory body, which is constituted by the Governor, with a maximum of 20 members of the State Legislative Assembly, of which 3/4th have to be from the Scheduled Tribes. Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of India provides the guidelines for the constitution and role and responsibilities of the Tribal Advisory Council. There are 10 States in India, that have Scheduled areas and accordingly have a Tribal Advisory Council in the State Legislative. These states, apart from Rajasthan, include Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana. West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand also have TACs, despite not having any notified Scheduled Areas.
