Udaipur District government schools have imposed a ban on the local dish dal-dhokli, which was being served alongside the state-approved menu. In Udaipur district, around 3,200 schools serve midday meals, providing nourishment to approximately 300,000 children.
This decision comes after complaints about stomach issues among children due to the dish being undercooked. K.B. Bhardwaj, the Chief Block Education Officer of Girwa, issued an order stating that dal-dhokli will no longer be prepared in any school. Several villagers reported that undercooked dal-dhokli was causing stomach pain in children.
As a result, schools are instructed to follow the prescribed midday meal menu. The order does not specify any individual school. However, sources reveal that this meal was prepared in most schools in the district one to two times a week.
Bhardwaj said that a general order has been issued to ensure dal-dhokli is not made in any school, and school heads have been directed to comply.
