The Udaipur Cooperative Dairy Federation (Saras) is set to replace its 41-year-old milk processing plant to handle the increased daily milk intake. The current plant processes up to 1.10 lakh liters of milk, while the federation receives about 1.50 lakh liters daily, creating management challenges. The new facility will have a capacity of 3 lakh liters, ensuring smooth operations for the next 20 years.

New Plant to have Capacity and Efficiency

To address the current management issues, a new plant with a 3-lakh-liter daily capacity will be ins. This expansion is designed to accommodate future growth in milk production, ensuring efficient operations for the next two decades.

Minister’s Visit and Proposal Draft

Joraram Kumawat, the Rajasthan Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, recently visited the Saras Dairy Federation. During his visit, officials informed him about the limitations of the existing plant. In response, the minister instructed the federation to draft a proposal for the new plant.

Support from Local Farmers and Milk Committees

The federation operates through 560 milk committees across Udaipur, involving around 12,500 farmers. The district is equipped with 170 bulk milk coolers to collect and store milk before it is transported to the main plant. Farmers supplying milk are paid every 15 days.

Benefits for Banswara District

Since Banswara lacks its own plant, its milk supply is also sent to Udaipur. Dairy Federation Manager Vipin Sharma noted that the new facility would reduce processing issues for both districts and prevent future delays.

Expanded Product Range and Separate Production Areas

Currently, Saras Dairy produces items like buttermilk, lassi, paneer, shrikhand, and mawa. The upgraded plant will have dedicated areas for these products and will expand its product line to include items such as ice cream, sweets, and other dairy products.

Improved Quality and Job Opportunities

The new plant will feature advanced technology to improve product quality and speed up processing. This expansion will also create employment opportunities in the region and allow more farmers to connect with the dairy federation, benefiting the local economy and dairy industry.
