Researchers at the Wildlife Research Laboratory within Mohanlal Sukhadia University's Department of Zoology have recently unveiled a novel avian discovery – the White-browed Bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus) in the state of Rajasthan. This marks the inaugural documentation of this particular bird species in the region, expanding the count of bulbul species in Rajasthan to a grand total of four.
It was during a visit to the shores of Udai Sagar Lake on January 9, 2023, that the initial sighting of the bird occurred, though its identity remained elusive at that time. However, the mystery surrounding this avian species was unraveled on March 17, 2023, when a congregation of birds belonging to the same species reappeared at the same location. This time, the scientists were well-prepared, capturing both photographs and audio recordings of the birds, ultimately enabling them to confirm the presence of White-browed Bulbuls in the region.
The White-browed Bulbul's presence in Rajasthan is noteworthy as it suggests the species is extending its geographical range northward within India. Its appearance in Udaipur is a promising development for enthusiasts of wildlife and avian enthusiasts. Mohanlal Sukhadia University's Wildlife Research Laboratory stands at the forefront of bird and wildlife research in Rajasthan. The revelation of the White-browed Bulbul's presence serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment and diligence exhibited by the laboratory's team of dedicated scientists.
