In a remarkable feat of patriotism and determination, Dr. Himanshu Gupta from Udaipur hoisted the tricolor flag at the base camp of Mount Everest, situated at an altitude of approximately 17,500 feet, on October 1. His incredible journey was inspired by a video he came across on social media, and after extensive research about the base camp, he turned his dream into a reality.  Himanshu, a 48-year-old resident of Ashok Nagar in Udaipur, embarked on an exciting journey from Kathmandu on September 24, 2023. After an arduous and exhilarating trip, they finally reached their destination at 3 pm on October 1, 2023. The sheer joy and elation that overcame them upon arrival were indescribable. The sense of accomplishment and fulfillment, despite the fatigue that had accumulated during the journey, was truly unique.

Every moment of his challenging journey became memorable. He recalls the arduous climb and the rugged, difficult-to-navigate roads, but he maintained a positive attitude and continued moving forward with each step. Gupta mentioned that as they progressed, the oxygen levels were diminishing. With no established road, they resorted to walking along footpaths. He explained that tasks had to be accomplished slowly, as taking three rapid steps would lead to panting. Sleep was elusive at night.

Gupta explained that when he made the decision to journey to the Mount Everest base camp, he also underwent training in Udaipur. He recalled that on that particular morning, the temperature had dropped to minus three degrees Celsius, so he brought along a jacket and a waterproof one. During their journey, they made sure to carry hot water to drink along the way, and they found basic facilities available at various locations. Bhagwan Kharol, the former president of the Udaipur Hotel Association, mentioned that Gupta serves as an executive member of the association, and it fills them with great pride to raise the tricolor flag upon Gupta's arrival at the Everest Base Camp. They have now departed from there and are expected to descend in approximately five days.
