[Interview] Kashish Seth: Bringing Udaipur alive on Canvas
A memory grabs our mind so strong that it rests there for as long as we live. A school going kid living far off from Udaipur explored the city in one trip and he couldn’t take it out of his mind. All it takes for him is now a canvas and few colors and the picture drawn out of his hands of this city will leave one speechless.

Kashish Seth fondly called Kashew Nuts, a 12th class student of Jalandhar started scribbling with crayons at a tender age of 3 years just like an inquisitive young mind does. With passage of time, his interest grew and it has been 14 years now that he is converting beautiful places onto a canvas and aspires to do this for his entire life.
Here is an excerpt of the small interview with him.
Q. When was your first time here?
A. In June 2012, I went for a trip to Mount Abu with my family and suddenly after seeing Mount Abu it was planned that we’ll be going to Udaipur to meet our relatives and spend some time their. I’ve never heard of Udaipur before and I denied to go at first but after being their just for 2 days I realized if I dint come here that’d be the worst decision I’d have taken in my life. That short fascinating visit to Udaipur gave me a new life.
Q. What inspired you to draw?
A. Art to me was something that I was gifted with by Almighty, a boon that I’ll never let go of me. God himself inspired me to draw. I wish if I could do nothing except for painting the whole day. I spend my most of the time in painting because it gives me a pleasure that I can’t get from anything.
Q. Why did you choose Udaipur?
A.Visiting ‘The Venice of me East’ was a relevance for me as I was connected to it from the soul. UDAIPUR~ the city of lakes had me enthralled from the very moment I stepped the foot on its pious land. The lush green hills of Aravalis around the azure water lakes make this land an Artist’s dream.
The unnatural and spiritual connection I felt with the land, specially The Royal City Palace made me feel that I had previous birth attachment to the land. And soon I fell in love with the land of valor and gallantry. The connection made this bond grow stronger and the reason why its always only Udaipur.
Q. What is the best and the worst thing about Udaipur?
A. In my opinion everything about Udaipur is so good that one can hardly think about anything bad in it. Since I’m asked to answer this, I feel Udaipur is an epitome to beauty, everything in Udaipur seems to be so mesmerizing that one can hardly resist to watch over again and again especially the Ambrai Ghat, one feels as if he’s reached to heaven. The lakes, mountains, palaces, old buildings and even the roads everything is royal in Udaipur.
The only thing I feel bad about Udaipur is that some people don’t know the value of the place they are living in, they find it old fashioned and good for nothing but actually there are many people out there who just wish to be in Udaipur forever, unlike me. People need to respect this city because its not merely a city but a dream that can give you a lot if you believe.
Q. How frequently do you visit Udaipur?
A. I don’t visit Udaipur frequently but I always find an excuse to be their anyhow because once I’m in Udaipur, I forget everything and just enjoy their. I’ve been their only two times in my lifetime but I’d wish to live in Udaipur for the whole life.
Q. What are your future plans?
A. Well I’ve many plans for my future. I’ve already made my identity in Udaipur by God’s grace and I wish to make the same identity in the World as well. Its not about just making an identity but a name that everyone will remember for years and years. This talent which I was gifted by Almighty, I want to respect it and take it to the level which I’ve always wanted to and I’ll try my level best to make this dream come true.
Q. Are you looking forward to exhibit your work in Udaipur? A. Yes, definitely that’d be a great exposure of my work in Udaipur. Recently in April I was asked by InstaUdaipur to come to Udaipur for the Instameet 2015 where I had a small exhibition of my paintings which were loved and praised by the Udaipurites. An exhibition in Udaipur, especially in the City Palace is a dream that I see with my open eyes and wish that it’ll come true soon, one day.Q. Will you continue to be in the creative field or divert to academics since you are in 12th presently
A. I cannot think of leaving this ever in my life because this is something that gives a meaning to my life, this is what I’m known for. Right now my 12th is going on and I’ll be pursuing with my passion only in the creative field.
