The Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, responding to comments made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his election speeches, said that the PM is provoking people in the name of religion and resorting to divisive politics.

Over the last few weeks, the PM Narendra Modi has reportedly been making speeches, which have comments like "Modi ko 400 seetein chahiye... taki Congress Ayodhya mein Ram Mandir par Babri Taala na Lagaa Dey" (Modi wants 400 seats so that Congress does not put the Babri Lock on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya) and allegations like 'If Congress comes to power, it will bulldoze the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Article 370 will also be restored in Jammu and Kashmir".

INDIA bloc going to win more than 273 seats in Lok Sabha elections, says Mallikarjun Kharge. He added that INDIA bloc will win more than 50% seats in Maharashtra, 7-8 seats in Rajasthan and 5-6 seats in Madhya Pradesh, while speaking to India TV News.

Kharge was addressing a gathering of the leaders of the I.N.D.I.A alliance on Saturday, 18 May. In his address Kharge said, "No Prime Minister before Narendra Modi has worked to instigate people the way he is doing it. He repeatedly talks of Democracy but does not follow the Principles of Democracy. On a question regarding the PMs comment, Kharge said, "We never used Bulldozer on anyone. Modi has a habit of lying and provoking people about things that Congress will never do things or things that are impossible to implement." He added that wherever the PM addresses, his address is directed towards inciting division... he talks about dividing the society."

On being asked by The Hindu on the Congress stand on Article 370, Kharge said that they are not answerable to Modi and that the Congress will implement what it has promised in their manifesto. First, let him have clarity on what he’s saying. He’s fooling people... Our party is centrist working on the ideology of Nehru. In fact, Modi is like Mao, who keeps attacking people,” he said.

On the Congress Manifesto, Kharge said that earlier Modi was calling this a Manifesto of the Muslim League, but now he calls it a Maoist Manifesto. He added that the reservations given in the Constitution will continue and no one can touch it. Udhav Thackerey, who was representing the Shiv Sena - Udhav faction, said that "Good Days (Acche Din) will come after June 4, after the I.N.D.I.A coalition comes to power." Uddhav also added that if Modi can call his Shiv Sena the "fake" Shiv Sena, he can also call the RSS as "fake" Sangh.
