Reputed Urdu Poet from Udaipur and Chairman of Central Board of Dawoodi Bohra Community (CBDBC), Abid Hussain ‘Adeeb’ was conferred the “Prof. Qamar Raees Sadbhaavna Samman” at a ceremony held at the Maharana Kumbha Sangeet Parishad auditorium in Udaipur yesterday.
At the Shaam-e-Ghazal event organised under the auspices of Rajasthan Urdu Research Institute, the award was conferred in the presence of eminent personalities of the city, journalists, social activists and ghazal lovers of Udaipur.
Chief Guest of the event Prof JP Sharma -Vice Chancellor of MLSU, Chair of the event, Prof. I.V. Trivedi – Former Vice Chancellor, MLSU and Special Guest Prof Ali Ahmed Fatmi, Head of Dept of Urdu at Allahabad University presented a Memento and Citation, while conferring the Prof Qamar Raees Sadbhavna Samman to Abid Hussain Adeeb, who is also recognized for his services to the Dawoodi Bohra Reform movement.
Earlier during the ceremony, Dr. Farooq Bakhshy, Director, Rajasthan Urdu Research Institute, welcomed the audience by elaborating on the objective and modus operandi of the institute.
“Literature (साहित्य), Couplets (शायरी) and Poems (कविता), in any language, can never be long lasting, unless they are inclusive of truth and reality”, said Prof Ali Ahmed Fatmi, in his address to the audience. He further said, “Abid Adeeb is rightfully entitled to the Sadbhaavna Samaan and he holds a high position in the realms of progressive Urdu Shaayri. The realities of life are expressed very explicitly in the Couplets of Adeeb.
Dr. Zenab Banu, Dr. Arun Chaturvedi, and Poet Kishen Dadhich highlighted the life and career of Abid “Adeeb”, further saying that “Adeeb” has been a progressive writer and thinker. Shaahid Pathan, a young poet from Udaipur, also read out a few lines from Adeeb’s works.
In the Shaam-e-Ghazal session at the event, Ghazal singers, Dr. Prem Bhandari, Dr. Devendra Singh Hiran and Dr. Pamela Modi enthralled the audience with their renditions of renowned Ghazals. ‘Urdu hai mera naam’, ‘Khusro ki Paheli’, Safar mein aise kai Marhale bhi aate hain (by ‘Adeeb’), Khu-ba-khu fail gai baat shanaasai ki’ and Woh Kaagaz ki Kashti…woh Baarish ka Paani were some of the renditions by the above singers, which overwhelmed the audience and kept them spellbound.
The event, which was Chaired by Prof. IV Trivedi, was attended, among other eminent audience, by Hibtullah Attari – Secretary of the Dawoodi Bohra Jama’at; Abbas Ali Nath – President of Dawoodi Bohra Jama’at; Ghazanfer Okasa – Secretary of Bohra Youth Sansthaan; Professor Sarwat Khan; Naresh Dadhich and others.
