Bhakti Sharma’s crowdfunding initiative got a major boost today when globally recognized Oscar winner musician AR Rahman tweeted in support of her campaign.
Bhakti, who seeks to represent India in the Open Water Swimming event at Tokyo Olympics in 2020 has initiated a crowdfunding campaign through Fueladream. The world champion swimmer from Udaipur seeks funds to cover her training expenses for 2016.
AR Rahman tweeted to netizens to support her purpose and fund her requirement, which stands at Rs. 2,30,000 of which her campaign has managed to garner Rs. 1,14,200 already.
Bhakti swam a world record 2.28kms across the Antartic Ocean in 41.4 minutes in freezing temperature in January 2015. Earlier, she had set a record of swimming 36km.
Open Water Swimming at the Olympics involved swimming 10kmand Bhakti is training herself to perform for India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Bhakti, on her end was excited with the support she received from AR Rahman, as he has been her idol for years. She said that this support has spurred and energized her.
