The second lion safari in Rajasthan is set to open at Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Udaipur by Diwali. Preparations are underway with a pair of Asiatic lions from Gujarat now residing at the sanctuary. This new safari follows the launch of the first one at Nahargarh in Jaipur.

Located 5 km from Udaipur, Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary covers 5.19 square kilometers. The new safari area spans about 20 hectares and is being developed with a cost of around Rs 3.5 crore. The foundation stone was laid on June 24, and an iron enclosure is being built before the construction of a boundary wall. The project is expected to be completed by October 2024.

The lions, Samrat and Sunaina, aged 7 and 3 respectively, have been moved from Shakarbagh Zoo in Junagadh, Gujarat. They are currently adjusting to their new environment at Sajjangarh Biological Park. Conservation efforts are a priority, with a focus on their mental and physical well-being.

Tourists will be able to view the lions in a specially designed enclosure during safari tours. Tickets for the safari will be available at the forest department's office, though prices have not yet been set. Safari vehicles will be used to transport tourists safely through the enclosure, and a caretaker will manage the lions' care and feeding.

In addition to the lion safari, visitors to Udaipur can explore three attractions: the Sajjangarh Lion Safari, the Monsoon Palace, and the Sajjangarh Bio Park. The Monsoon Palace offers panoramic views of Udaipur, while the Bio Park houses 6 lions and 185 animals of various species.

The first lion safari in Rajasthan opened in Jaipur in 2018, with an investment of Rs 4 crore. It started with three lions but now has only two.
