Tourism Rise Expected in Udaipur During Diwali Festival

The Tourism Department recently shared statistics showing that Udaipur saw 1.61 lakh tourists in September. With festivals like Dussehra, Dhanteras, and Diwali around the corner, preparations are in full swing.

5-Day Holiday to Boost Tourism

Dhanteras, Choti Diwali, and Diwali fall from Wednesday to Friday this year, followed by a weekend, creating a 5-day holiday. This extended break is expected to bring a tourism boom to Udaipur. 

Hotel Rates Rise by 30%

Hotel rates have already increased by up to 30% during the festive period. Around 50% of bookings have been completed, with Udaipur offering 811 hotels, resorts, and homestays. 

Tourist Numbers Throughout the Year

Except for April, Udaipur has welcomed 1 to 1.5 lakh tourists every month. By the end of September, the total number of tourists had reached 13 lakh.

Diwali Bookings Underway

According to Rakesh Chaudhary, Secretary of the Hotel Association of South Rajasthan, Diwali bookings are in full swing. Most tourists are from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, while those from Delhi and Mumbai prefer booking on arrival. This year, there is high demand for resorts and lake-side villas, especially among metro city tourists.

Room Availability Limited in Large Hotels

During weekends, five-star lake-side hotels charge between Rs 10,000/- to Rs 70,000/- per night. For Diwali, this has risen to Rs 17,000/- to Rs 1 lakh per night, including stay and breakfast for two tourists. Most hotels are showing limited availability online.

City Decoration for Festival Tourism

Shikha Saxena, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, mentioned that festival preparations have begun. Tour operators and hotels are offering special packages, and the city will be decorated.

The online travel portal MakeMyTrip has revealed its list of the 50 best destinations to visit in India during December, the peak tourist season. Udaipur, along with four other cities from Rajasthan, has made it to the list. Udaipur is ranked as the 10th best city to visit in December. Other Rajasthan cities featured include Jaisalmer at 8th, Jodhpur at 9th, Jaipur at 11th, and Pushkar at 12th.
