The ongoing Summer Cricket Cup at the Field Club grounds witnessed some fiery batting in the match between Suryaveer Singh Eleven and Dikshant Yagnik Eleven teams on 10 April. Summer Cricket Cup is being organised under the auspices of Udaipur Cricket Academy. This was the first league match of the tournament.
Junaid Hussain, captain of Suryaveer Eleven scored 70 runs inspite of a nagging face injury, to lead his team to victory with support from Shikhar Asthana, who scored 60. Junaid was adjudged Man of the Match for his overall performance. Earlier, Dikshant Eleven laid a target of 179 runs thanks to a solid contribution of 72 by Abhishek Ashok.
The other match played on the same day between Vineet Eleven and Anup Dave Eleven, ended with Vineet Eleven claiming victory with a huge margin of 117 runs. Siddhart Sharma from the winning team helped manage a huge total of 204 runs with an individual performance of 82 runs, with assistance from Rudra Puniya, who scored 70. Shiv Dave of Anup Eleven took five wickets. Siddharth Sharma was adjusged man of the match for his performance with the bat. Gitanshu Jain took 3 wickets for the winning team.

Vikram Singh Chauhan, under whose mentorship Junaid has honed his skills, in his conversation with UdaipurTimes, said that Junaid has been playing league cricket for the last 4.5 years. His interest, as per Vikram, was in pace bowling and he used to pursue this with passion in his earlier years. Vikram adds, that over the years, they saw a glint of batting essence in Junaid, and focused on his batting skills. Over the last 6 months that Junaid has been playing, his batting has improved substantially and his effortless strokes are a marvel of timing and perfection.
Vikram further added that Junaid has always been the captain of his team and in the last six months, he has scored a half century in every alternate match that he has played. Junaid is also the Captain of the Delhi Public School cricket team.
Summer Cricket Cup is being played across two categories – Under 15 and Under 12, with 4 teams and 3 teams respectively. Each match has 25 over sessions and the finals will be played on Sunday, 14 April.
