According to the Hindu calendar on Bhadrapad (Sept-Oct month) Dashmi, birthday of Bhagvaan Ramdev is celebrated. Today, a huge number of devotees visit his temples and pay their homage to this spiritual legend.

Bhagvan Ramdev (not to confuse with Baba Ramdev the yoga guru) was a folk-deity and a Tanwar-Rajput. His disciples come from all the parts of the country to Ramdevra (a village on his name) 12 km from Pokhran on a fair organized after Rakhi. Baba Ramdevji believed in the equality of all human beings, be they high or low, rich or poor. We have mentioned in our last post on Ramrasoda that how the devotees from Udaipur and all over the country go to Ramdevra to attened the fair. Most of them go on foot or cycles travelling over 1000km of distance.

Birth Anniversary of Ramapeer

He was a saint of the fourteenth century who devoted his life for the upliftment of the downtrodden. Baba Ramdev is often depicted on a horseback. His worship crosses the Hindu-Muslim divide as well as the distinctions of caste. His followers include both Hindus and Datils in modern-day Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Delhi and even in Sindh in Pakistan. Several Rajasthani fairs and festivals are held to commemorate him.

He had miraculous powers and his fame reached everywhere. The Hindus consider him the reincarnation of Lord Krishna.

Legend goes that five “Peers” from Mecca came here to test his power and after being convinced, paid their homage to him. Since then Muslims venerate him as Ram Shah Peer or Ramapeer. Baba Ramdevji believed in equality of human beings and granted wishes to the poor and downtrodden.

Baba Ramdev Maharaj took samadhi (conscious exit from the mortal body.) in 1459 A.D. Around the samadhi, Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner constructed a temple in 1931 A.D. People visit this temple mostly in the Bhadrapad month of Hindu calendar as the birth and death anniversary of Lord Ramdev appear in the same month.

There is a shrine inside the temple dedicated to Daali Bai, a devotee of Baba Ramdev.  There is a bangle structure constructed in concrete known as Daali Bai Ki Kangan [Daali Bai’s Bangle]. It is to believe that if you crawl out of the bangle and tie bangles near the shrine your wishes are fulfilled.

People in Udaipur visit temples at bekani puliya, on worshiping him, their wishes are fulfilled and they experience peace and stability in their life.
