Why Just Formality on Foundation Day?
The 460th Foundation Day of Udaipur came and went away like nothing had happened on that day in history. Just garlanding the statue of Maharana Udai Singh and it’s all done!
The question that arises is why there is no celebration like the other festivals? Why there is no celebration or involvement from the local community on the Foundation Day of Udaipur? Why this glorious past is rusting in the present?
The answers should be apparent as the inner perspective on the importance of this day is lost in virtual realism.

Today, being the 460th Foundation Day of Udaipur which is popularly known as ‘City of Lakes’, the celebrations began and culminated with the garlanding of Maharana Udai Singh II, who founded the city in the year 1559. This shouldn’t in an way satiate the magnitude of the day.
We have celebrations on every big or small religious, cultural and social festival or occasion, be it Diwali or Gangaur Mahotsav. On the day when Udaipur came into existence, though, we are simply proud of the fact that “We love Udaipur” in spite of the reality that how inconsiderable is the day when Udaipur got its name.
Sources say that no iconic celebration has been done since 2009 as it used to be in the earlier years when moderate celebrations like lighting at the heritage buildings, etc. but over the last few years, even this moderate recognition is missing.
In the name of the 460th Foundation Day Rajni Dangi, Chairperson, UMC and few councillors completed a formality by just offering flowers to Maharana Udai Singh’s monument.
When asked the reason as to why the celebration was so dull, Rajni Dangi answered, “We are ready to support but none of the social groups have ever took an initiative to make it big.”
Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in year 1559, which was the capital of Mewar. Apart from the lakes, it is also renowned for having the longest ruling Dynasty and their descendants still preserve their royal positions.
