Wikipedia, the sixth most visited web-site in the world will be blacked out on Wednesday for 24hrs starting from MIDNIGHT EST, which is approximately 10:30 hrs (IST) in order to oppose the two bills which are going before the US Congress to stop the illegal copying and sharing of movies and music on the Internet.

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are the two bills which were proposed in the legislature.

Several sources said that members of the Congress are objecting to the illegal activities which are being done by the internet surfers due to online websites, and hence they are the main supporters of these bills.

Online giants such as Reddit and Boing Boing will also join the protest with Wikipedia. Other masters of the web, viz. Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. have also voiced their objection.

PIPA and SOPA, they say, have been introduced in the interest of copyright protection and to stop illegal activities such as piracy. Because of these online websites, they say, the usage of pirated video and movies are increasing in number, due to which the film industry and music industry are affected.

A day without these websites is a day without sun, and many online surfers or netizens are joining hands together to stop this act.

Users from Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo, etc. have raised their voice towards these bills.

What could eventually happen is unpredictable.

Readers’ comments and discussions are warranted.
