Another addition to the increasing incidents of daylight thefts in public places around the city. A couple stole and walked away with a metal statue from a renowned Handicraft shop in the middle of Hathipol.
As per the information provided by the owner of the shop, a couple walked into the showroom at 5pm on 15th March and after looking around, requested the owner to show them a few gift items wort Rs 8-10 thousand. The owner showed them a few items in one part of the showroom and then took them to another portion of the shop to show them a few more items.
The CCTV recording shows the entire interaction, and when the three of them walked into the other portion, the woman came back to the earlier spot and quickly picked up a metal statue and hid it under her saree between her legs. This was so swiftly and deftly done that no one could even assume that the woman had hid something or was acting suspicious. She followed the same gait as earlier, walked down the shop and the couple exited, saying that they will come back later.
Today morning, the showroom owner noticed a heavy item missing from its perch and got through to reviewing the CCTV to understand what had happened, as the entire showroom is covered with CCTV cameras. The CCTV camera showed the entire incident clearly and the matter was notified to the police.
Hathipol police updated the owner, saying that there is a group of thieves assumed to be from UP who are doing the rounds in the city and they are targeting jewelry shops and garment shops. This was the first time such an incident was reported from a handicraft shop.
This news has been put up more to highlight the incident and make the readers aware of the possible incidents which they should look out for.
Over the past few months, there have been regular incidents of daylight thefts on main roads, in colonies and in public areas and not much headway has been made by the police. The police it seems are busy with checking helmets on two wheelers, picking up a few people once in a while and looking after VIPs. Today when the owner visited the police station to record his complaint, he was told that the staff were busy as a VIP was visiting town.Welcome to Udaipur Smart City.
