Under another step in the Smart city project, Lake City Udaipur will soon undergo a face-lift.
Following the footsteps of Jodhpur as Blue City and Jaipur as Pink City, Udaipur will hence forth be called White City. The steps of face-lift will first commence in wall city. The process of painting the city white has already started in one of the markets in the interior areas of the city. As part of Heritage conservation project and Smart city Project, houses and shops are being painted in white.
The 5 markets of wall city will experience this change first. The work is in progress from Clock Tower to Jagdish Chowk and the new look is amazing and grabbing everyone’s attention. A budget of 5 crores has been assigned under this project. The task of painting the city white was discussed a number of times earlier but somehow it could not be put into action.
Municipal Corporation and Smart City Company has started issuing instructions to Government departments and Construction companies that any building that is constructed or repainted should be categorically painted in white. It is mandatory for all to keep their buildings white in colour from now on. Even the terms and conditions under Municipal Corporation regarding any new construction have an additional rule of painting the buildings in white colour.
The work of painting the city white has started in Jagdish Chowk to Clock Tower, Bada Bazar, Moti Chohatta market, Jagdish Chowk to Gangaur Ghat market and Jagdish Chowk to City Palace market. Even the sign boards will be similar for all shops and will have a heritage look. The sign board will only have name of the firm. No other details will be allowed on the board.
All the dealers and merchants of the above areas are co-operating in painting the city white. The entire budget is being borne by Smart City Project. Not a single shop-keeper or any dweller is being asked to pay a single penny for this work.
