The incidences of Panther being killed in road mishap are increasing these days with the human interference in their habitat and deforestation. This four legged animal has to cross the highways in search of the water resources during late hours, get hit by the fast moving vehicles and get killed.

Similar incidence came to light on Tuesday morning at Udaipur – Ahmedabad highway where a female Panther died after getting hit by an unknown vehicle while crossing the road.

The Panther whose age was estimated to be 3 years was found lying dead on the road side near the Pipli village situated on the Ahmedabad highway. The locals of the area immediately informed the officials of forest department after which the dead body of the Panther was shifted to the veterinary hospital for postmortem.

Deputy Director of the Veterinary Hospital of Udaipur Dr. Lalit Gupta informed UT that as the animal falls under the category 1 of animals; a board of doctors was formed consisting of Dr. Shakti Singh, Dr. Mahendra Mehta and Dr. Anupama that conducted the postmortem of the deceased female Panther.

It was found that the panther’s hip bone got brutally crushed while a lot of blood was lost which highlighted that she was hit by a fast moving vehicle. It is to consider that in that condition, the panther died due to traumatic shock and also due to excessive blood loss.

After postmortem the dead body of the Panther was brought in the presence of officials of both revenue and police department at Sita Mata Sanctuary at Sisarma village of Udaipur.

The area around the Pipli, Kaya villages are those areas which was mostly being used by the Panthers to go towards the water resources in older days and nowadays the animals are using the same route for water during which they often get hit by fast moving vehicles passing on the Highways.

Previously Debari was more prone to Panther’s death in road mishap but after the joint initiative of Public Works Department and Veterinary hospital, an underpass was made which reduced the number of mishaps in that area.
