The Bharat Bandh called to protest against the "Creamy Layer" judgement by the Supreme Court in SC/ST Category Reservations, witnessed a moderate impact in Udaipur.
Messages on social media a day earlier on 20 August had created confusion among the residents, before police executive verified that there was no formal call from any organisation to keep markets closed, and the Bandh was mostly voluntary.
The last five days have anyways been tense for Udaipur after the murder of a 15 yr old boy in a stabbing incident in the walled city area. Part of Udaipur, specially within the walled city area were shut most of the period between 16-20 August. The Bandh call left the residents of these areas wary about venturing out, hence these areas were slightly affected by the Bandh. Hathipol, Ashwani Bazar, Delhi Gate, Bapu Bazar, Surajpol, Dhan Mandi, and areas in this vicinity did witness the emptyness in the streets and markets. Some business associations across the city, supported the Bandh. The Bar Association also supported the Bandh. Mobile Internet, which was suspended following the stabbing at Bhatiyani Chohatta, was also resumed at 2pm on 21 August with a stern warning from the Police department.
There were no incidents of violence, even minimal, thanks to the strict vigilance demonstrated by the Police after the tension in the past few days.
A small incident outside a temple in the Mochi Wada area, which could have escalated into another situation of concern, was doused out quickly thanks to CCTV footage. People found some non vegetarian food scatterd outside a temple in the Mochi Wada area of the walled city. Residents of the area, specially members of a specific community came out in anger and demanded that the administration take action against what looked like a conspiracy against the community. However, CCTV footage some time later, revealed that a dog had puked outside the temple. The community members were reasoned with and the situation is now under control.
