Demonstrating against the policy of imposing Value Added Tax on the trade done by the textile merchants, huge number of retailers and whole sellers marched on the main routes of the city today and handed over a memorandum to the District Collector.

The rally was joined by a large crowd of traders. They went to collectorate, where they shouted slogans against the government and showed their agitation.

As per the new rules of the Government, VAT will be imposed on the trade of textile merchants of the State. This will make the merchandise financially weak and it will affect their businesses, said one of the merchant.

The representatives of the Textile Association requested the administration to convey their request to higher officials to revise their decision and change it in the favor of merchants.
