Indian users get access to AI-based Google search features for testing
Voice search functionality will be incorporated in the near future
Search with Generative AI
Google introduced its Search with Generative AI experiment for users in India starting on Thursday 31 August, 2023. This launch includes specific features tailored to the country, aiming to enhance search functionality and provide a more intuitive and intelligent experience for users. Users in India can now participate in Google's Search with Generative AI experiment by signing up through Search Labs. This feature will be accessible on both Chrome and the Google app, alongside the regular native Google search. The Search Generative Experience (SGE), previously launched in other markets, is now available in English and Hindi for Indian users.
In regions of India where Hindi is relevant, users will have the option to switch between English and Hindi languages. For other parts of the country, English will remain the primary language. To accommodate the significant influx of new Internet users, a text-to-speech feature is being introduced. Additionally, a voice search functionality will be incorporated in the near future.
“By bringing the power of generative AI directly into Google search, it allows entirely new types of questions you never thought search could answer and transforms the way information is organised to help sort through and make sense of what’s out there.” He said this will particularly help new Internet users, who may often get overwhelmed with the amount of information online and hoped they will be “be able to understand a topic faster, uncover new viewpoints or insights and get things done more easily”. - Puneesh Kumar, GM for Google Search
“With any change we make to search we maintain our high bar for quality to uphold the expectations of billions of users who really trust us. Our work on this new experience is rooted in our ranking systems, and all the expertise that we have developed over the last two decades in understanding information quality in a deep way.”
