The Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) stationed at Jhadol near Udaipur has been arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau today for accepting a bribe of Rs. 23000.  The amount was demanded in return of releasing pending bills of more than Rs. 4 lacs.

CDPO Sheela Tiwari, resident of Sector-5 Hiran Magri, is charged for bribery from women members of the committee that prepares nutritional food for pregnant women under the special program run by government. The food is then sent to various Aanganwadis.

Sheela Tiwari was head of 18 clusters, according to sources.  10 villages form 1 cluster and every cluster has three women appointed to prepare food. The bills totaling Rs. 4,62,000 spent for food preparation, were pending with CDPO from the past three months.  Tiwari allegedly demanded this bribe to release the bills.

ACB Udaipur reacted after a complaint was lodged by one of the committee members, who approached Sheela several times to clear the dues.  Tiwari demanded an amount of Rs. 43000 as bribe to settle the dues and the deal was finally negotiated at Rs.23000.

After the deal, on the orders of Tiwari, the payment of Rs. 4,62,000 was made to the committee through cheque; however as promised, the bribe amount did not reach Tiwari.  As a result, Tiwari started pressurizing the applicant for money.

Today, ACB laid the trap and caught Sheela Tiwari red handed while taking bribe at her office at Jhadol.  Sheela Tiwari’s husband is an officer in the Roadways department at Udaipur.
