Udaipur police on Thursday arrested 2 members of an interstate gang for withdrawing cash by tempering the ATM machines. The arrested men have accepted committing 82 similar incidences of crime at various states of the country and have withdrawn a huge amount of cash.

Udaipur police on Thursday arrested 2 members of an interstate gang for withdrawing cash by tempering the ATM machines. The arrested men have accepted committing 82 similar incidences of crime at various states of the country and have withdrawn a huge amount of cash.

According to the SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal the accused have targeted the ATM machines at various cities of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, U.P, Uttaranchal, M.P and Goa. The accused revealed that they used to apply some adhesive on the cancel button of the ATM Machine’s keypad to target an individual for cash. Once the Pin numbers were punched for transaction, the account would remain logged in and the accused would later use that to withdraw cash from the account’s ATM.

The accused were identified as Vaseem of Mevaat and Maherdin of Haryana who is the leader of the gang. During the primary interrogation the accused accepted targeting the ATM machines situated at Pratap Nagar and Sukher, Udaipur. The accused added that they always used a very cheap adhesive to execute their plan but many a times, the bank had to replace the keypad after that, SP Goyal informed.

While informing about the modus operandi the accused informed that they used an adhesive on the keypad of the ATM and waited for the victim to enter the booth. They used to enter alongside and indulge in conversation while keeping an eye on the password/pin number being punched in. The accused also used to keep a check on the bank account’s balance.

Police found out that accused Maherdin is a leader of 5 other gangs who are involved in the similar crimes. Moreover, Maherdin informed that almost all youth members of his village were involved in these activities and transferred the amount to their families for a lavish life, SP added.
