An Inspector of the Mumbai Police was caught red handed by a team from the Udaipur Anti Corruption Bureau, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.

The ACB operation took place at Hotel Vishnupriya, Gulab Bagh Road, where the Inspector, Anant Vishram Panwar, of Kurla Police Station was staying with his family.

Anant had come to Udaipur with his team and had brought along Vikram Singh of Udaipur based Devyani Phosphates, against whom a case of fraud of Rs. 7 Crore was lodged on 9th May 2013 by Mumbai based Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd.

Inspector Anant had allegedly demanded Rs. 5 lac from Madan Singh, brother of the accused Vikram, to ensure that he will help Vikram during the interrogation and will not be beaten up. Vikram Singh is on PC Remand since 12th June.

According to Madan, Anant Panwar demanded the money when he had gone to Mumbai to appeal for bail for his brother and met Inspector at that time.

Madan had closed the deal at Rs. 2 Lac and had already given Rs. 15000 to Anant. Later when inspector Anant and three constables U.S Patil, Ramesh Kavale and S.N Chuara came along with Vikram Singh to Udaipur on 8th July to further investigate the matter, Anant demanded the remaining payment.

Madan convinced him to take Rs. 50000 initially and the rest later. Anant agreed and called Madan to Hotel Vishnupriya with the money yesterday evening.

Madan immediately informed ACB and after verifying the background a team from ACB Udaipur, under AdSP Rajendra Prasad Goyal laid the trap in the Hotel. When Madan came to the Hotel to hand over money to Anant, the ACB nabbed him while accepting the money.

Anant Panwar is with the Mumbai Police since 1976 when he joined as a Constable, and has been an Inspector at Kurla Police Station since 2009. While he was staying at Hotel Vishnupriya, his three constables along with the accused Vikram Singh, were staying at Hotel Laxmi Palace.

The ACB did their investigations till much late in the night yesterday and are expecting a few more well known names cropping up during further investigations in this regard.
