Udaipur police seized a pot full of ancient silver coins, weighing around 3kg from an under construction building at Kanjiyon ka Guda, Saira Tehsil.

Udaipur police seized a pot full of ancient silver coins, weighing around 3kg from an under construction building at Kanjiyon ka Guda, Saira Tehsil.

The treasure was discovered around 15 days ago by the land owner Pansingh who immediately hid it but consecutively, the information reached police and the pot containing coins were seized.

There were around 266 coins found, out of which, 148 coins are of post British rule while 118 coins are of pre British time.

SHO of Saira Police Station, Dalpat Singh received information about the treasure hidden with Pansingh. He raided Pansingh’s house and recovered the pot.

The pot weighing around 2.98 kg and the coins found are said to be of the period between the years 1700 to 1900 AD.

Pansingh informed that he found a pot buried deep inside the ground during a construction work at his farm. He hid it in his house but the news of the treasure spread all over the village through the construction workers who were present during the digging .The revenue and police officials took the treasure in their custody.

However, the exact value of the treasure is not yet disclosed by the officials. According to Vinay Bhanawat, a famous numismatist of the city, the value of the coins could be in crores of rupees if it has coins of the year 1840 and 1897.
