Nearly half a dozen offices at Delhi Gate were targeted by thieves on Friday night of 2 Aug.

Rs 2 Lac along with a number of cheques were stolen from Insurance Company’s office. One Laptop was stolen from a Chartered Accountant’s office. Attempt of theft was also made on another office of a mineral industries firm.

According to sources, a gang of thieves invaded and burgled the National Insurance company’s office by entering through terrace to reach the office located on first floor of the building near Bank Tiraha, Delhi Gate.

The incident came to light when Indraraj Singh, Senior Branch Manager opened the office today morning and found that the locker was open and office ransacked.

According to police, cash amount of Rs.1.92 Lac was stolen from the safe and 8 cheques worth Rs.61,835 are also missing.

“Loss of cheques is not considered to be a big issue as we have already intimated our customers to give us duplicate cheques” says Indra Raj Singh.

Office of CA Sunil Badala was also attacked but thieves found only one laptop. Badala told UT that the database in laptop was more valuable than the price of laptop. Badala said “It was all my client’s data which I had accumulated through my years of work”.

Theft was attempted in two more offices nearby – one of Narendra Nalvaya (Nalvaya Mineral Industries) and other of Mukesh Jain. Fortunately though, the locks could not be opened.

Surajpol police was immediately informed. SHO Sobhagya Singh and his team reached the spot and took the fingerprints from safe of insurance company. They also found some footprints which might be useful in the investigation.

There were no CCTV cameras installed in the building or any offices inside. Moreover, no security guards were employed.

After initial investigation, Police is suspicious that there may be the hand of a known person in this theft.
