ISRO Scientists conducts workshop on Planets

A three-day workshop, under the banner of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) and sponsored by Vigyan Prasar, is being held at Udaipur today. The workshop on the Transit of Venus, which began this morning at around 10, was inaugurated by ISRO and Astrosat chairprofessor P.C. Agarwal.

The workshop on the Transit of Venus, which began this morning at around 10, was inaugurated by ISRO and Astrosat chairprofessor P.C. Agarwal. On this occasion, Amitabh Pandey, scientist from Vigyan Prasar, scientist Sachin Narwaridia, Mahip Bhatnagar , Dean of Science College, Prof B. L. Ahuja , Head of Department of Physics, College of Science, Prof Rajesh Pandey , co-cordinator, G.S Rathore , co-ordinator, Prof SNA Jafri, Dr Devendra Parik and Dr Lokesh Bharti were present.

Also present at the inaugural function were around 50 science students and research scholars from all over the country, including 20 from Udaipur.

In his inaugural speech, Prof. P.C Agarwal spoke about the Sun, its formation and its activities. This was followed by a detailed lecture on the subject of Total Eclipse and Venus Transit by scientist of USO Prof. Ashok Ambhastha.

Amitabh Pandey then gave given a demonstration on the Transit of Venus, a phenomenon that will occur on June 5-6, 2012, and explained how one could see this occurrence with the naked eye using a solar filter.

Finally, the Indian Astrophysics scientist from Bangalore, Prof. S. Chatterjee, demonstrated how to observe celestial events in the day and at night with the help of a six-inch telescope.
